It’s that time of year again. That time where we get consumed with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, run around like crazy people and try to get each person on our list ‘the perfect gift’. I tend to obsess and over think every single item I buy, there’s even a running joke in our family how someone always gives a gift that’s “going to make me cry”. So if you’re trying to find that special someone a present that will make hearts melt, hopefully this list will help open the waterworks this Christmas.
Why a personalized gift? Is that even a question that needs answered? If you seriously need it spelled out, it simply means, something given from the heart is much more intimate than grabbing the first thing you see for the mere fact of scratching them off your list. This holiday start a new trend by giving a gift that will last for years, or even generations to come. Keep in mind when I say personalized I don’t mean a monogrammed hankie per say, well I will mention a few monogrammed items, but go beyond that. Give something they will brag to their friends and family about.
Here are a few items I have given over the years and been given that have meant so much to me.
Throughout the year you tend to take a ton of pictures, so why not relive the past year and share candid moments with your family and loved ones through a photo calendar? I was so touched last year when I was given a calendar of the first year of my nieces life. Being an aunt for the first time, watching how much she has grown from month by month touched my heart in the warmest of ways. You can purchase these just about anywhere nowadays, from your local CVS or Walgreens to a photo printing company online.
My best friend gave me an ornament that she ordered online with a picture of myself on one side and her, my maid of honor, on the other side. She chose a picture from my wedding day with the title of “My Best Friend’s Wedding” with the year on it. It was one of the sweetest most personal gifts I have ever received. Ornaments are all about meaning and putting this on the tree this year made me pause for a moment and reflect on the great friendships I have in life.
Something about monogram elicits elegance, so giving this monogrammed blanket to our newly wedded friends seemed like the perfect gift. It’s so crisp and clean and can be passed through the family for generations to come.
Feeling crafty this year? I found this amazing idea on Pinterest.com, you take Mod Podge and photographs and create your very own inexpensive photo canvas. I did a quick search online and this beautiful creation can cost you up to $80. By making this yourself, you not only save a few bucks, but you get to create something so incredibly meaningful. The receiver is sure to take notice of the effort that goes into this masterpiece.
Hand Crochet or Knitted Blanket
This is one of my favorite gifts to give every year. Giving something that you have put your heart and soul into and better yet, made with your own two hands is so rewarding and is sure to hold a sentimental value. If you’re not good with a crochet hook or knitting needle, it’s never too late to start. There is a vast array of websites that help self-teach this gifted art. I’ll share a personal secret with you though, start this project at the beginning of the year and work on it as the year goes by to ensure there is no rushing.
I love the creative versatility of this idea. You can get the initial(s) of your spouse, your child or heck even yourself. Regardless of whose initial it is, it will carry meaning when its worn.
Wedding Invitation Vase
When I received this from a close friend, it made my heart melt and took personalized gifts to a whole new level. She purchased a gorgeous vase through Pottery Barn and had our wedding invitation etched into the glass. Every single detail from our invitation was etched into this vase. It’s one of the most well thought out gifts we’ve ever been given.

Know someone who loves to cook? Give them credit to their amazing dishes at dinner parties, office gatherings or even summer barbeques with their own personalized cookware set. At thatsmypan.com you can choose from a wide variety of cooking items that are sure to never get lost on the buffet table.
